The University of Washington develops new smart fabrics than Levi's and Google's jackets

Smart fabrics are a relatively new hot spot, and Levi's and Google's smart jackets have been sold for two years and sold for $350. However, scientists have quickly created a smart fabric that easily overcomes this Jacket – its most impressive feature is the ability to store data.

In a research report published last week, computer scientists at the University of Washington detailed their application of a new type of smart fabric. This new type of textile can store information without the need for additional sensors or electronics and take gesture recognition to a whole new level.

In order to store information, a magnetization line is divided into a plurality of units. Each cell is then encoded by a polarization unit having a north or south magnetic field, corresponding to 1 or 0 bits, respectively. The peaks can be clearly read by simply sweeping the magnetic strip on the magnetometer of the smartphone.
